The Zui Conn collection presents an exploration of material and process. Each piece is crafted from Noto Hiba cypress, a wood native to the Noto Peninsula. Its surfaces exhibit unique textures, created through a distinctive chainsaw carving technique, which imparts both bold and intricate details. These forms are then treated with a bespoke mixture of pine soot and persimmon tannin, yielding a deep black finish. This application not only imparts a specific aesthetic but also provides inherent preservative qualities. The collection considers the expanded concept of solid wood, reflecting the artisan's individual approach to the raw material.
