Wild Studio, founded by Rosa Nøss Bendixen, is a forward-thinking design company dedicated to changing perceptions around plastic use. The company’s ethos revolves around valuing all Earth’s resources, as reflected in its Moon Collection. “Without the moon, the earth would spin out of control,” Bendixen notes, emphasizing the need for a paradigm shift in material usage.
Designing with discarded plastic presents unique challenges, particularly when dealing with an industry accustomed to high-volume, conventional production. Wild Studio sources materials through a mix of purchases and partnerships, often working with unpredictable batches of waste. For instance, a recent shipment of shredded plastic still had visible remnants of original labels, creating an unexpectedly appealing color that became their most popular. This process embodies their commitment to creative reuse and sustainability.
The design process at Wild Studio is dynamic, adapting to the available materials. This approach has led to notable successes, such as their partnership with The Danish Design Museum, which uses and sells Wild Studio products in their café. In another project, Wild Studio’s products were placed in a kindergarten, where children creatively interacted with the designs, using them as toys. Bendixen cherishes these moments, highlighting the playful and versatile nature of their creations.
Looking ahead, Wild Studio plans to delve deeper into upcycling and explore new materials, staying true to their innovative roots. They are set to explore new methods of material usage and different forms of upcycling.
