EFG, a prominent European furniture maker with more than 135 years of experience, continues to push the boundaries with its latest innovation: the Ori modular sofa system. Developed in collaboration with the renowned Front design studio, Ori introduces a fresh take on multifunctional office furniture. Drawing inspiration from origami, this modular sofa brings together visual appeal and comfort, perfectly suited to the demands of today’s dynamic workspaces.
As flexible working environments become more common, office furniture must adapt to fulfill multiple roles. With its modular, sculptural design, Ori is designed to meet these changing requirements. The system has seven modules, including two- and three-seater options, and can be configured to fit a range of environments such as offices, hotel lobbies, or public spaces like libraries. From its fluid forms shaped by paper-folding techniques to its sleek recessed wooden base, every element has been thoughtfully designed to create an elegant and versatile furniture solution.
Front’s creative approach shines through in Ori’s balance between playfulness and functionality. “Our vision was to create a sofa that works both as a standalone piece and in various modular arrangements,” says Anna Lindgren, designer at Front. The faceted back and pleated details, inspired by origami’s geometric precision, give the sofa a unique, sculptural quality that can serve as a focal point in any space.
EFG has incorporated ergonomic considerations to ensure the Ori sofa provides comfort for long periods, accommodating a range of postures. Optional features like built-in tables and power outlets make it especially suited to modern work environments.
EFG continues to uphold its Scandinavian design legacy by working with Front, creating furniture that balances aesthetic appeal with durability. The Ori system reflects this ethos, offering a modular, customizable seating solution that is designed to adapt and endure.
