Bosnian furniture brand Artisan was founded in 2007 in a small workshop belonging to the Ćostović family in Tešanj. The origins date back to the 1970s when the family began producing bespoke pieces. Businessman Dražen Poznanović partnered with Fadil Ćostović after being impressed by their craftsmanship, leading to the creation of Artisan. Initially focused on bespoke collaborations with international architects, Artisan expanded in 2010 by working with young designers to develop its own in-house collection, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern design.
At the heart of Artisan’s identity is its dedication to hand-crafted excellence. Artisan selects its wood on-site, using walnut, oak, beech, pine, hazel, or maple, ensuring that every piece is made with an ethical approach to environmental stewardship. The entire process is fully integrated, from design and production right through to commercialization, with 70% of the production done by hand—sanding, assembling, and oiling—making each piece truly unique. Each item undergoes a meticulous production process where skilled artisans craft each detail by hand, transforming raw timber into functional works of art. This careful attention to craftsmanship not only guarantees a high standard of quality but also ensures that each product has a unique character and warmth. The Neva chair and Nilu table are both designed by Regular Company, a multidisciplinary studio based in Croatia. Regular Company’s design approach focuses on creating functional, timeless products that celebrate the natural beauty of materials. Their collaboration with Artisan has resulted in furniture pieces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also embody a deep respect for craftsmanship and sustainability. One of Artisan’s standout pieces is the Nilu table, designed with a minimalist yet sophisticated aesthetic.
