Founded in 2023 by brothers Simon and Jonas Hofmann, Berlin-based design studio Des Fragments blends familial craftsmanship heritage with a contemporary design philosophy. Their work reflects a commitment to local, sustainable production and a passion for exploring new materials and techniques.

“For us, form always comes first,” the Hofmann brothers emphasize. This guiding principle shapes every piece they create, from initial sketches to the final product. Their process begins with curiosity—“What kind of object excites us, or what material feels interesting to explore?” they share. Once they identify a unique feature, such as a joint, texture, or connection, it becomes the foundation around which the rest of the design evolves.

The Stamp Table Oak and the Candle Holder exemplify their thoughtful approach. The Stamp Table began as a collaboration with a local carpenter, evolving into a compact, geometric piece crafted from oak for its warmth and durability. The Candle Holder, developed with South Korean brand MK9, experiments with modularity, allowing it to stand alone or combine into larger arrangements. Both designs highlight clean lines and functional elegance, underscored by visible bolts and precise craftsmanship.

Durability and sustainability are integral to Des Fragments’ ethos. Certified oak and recycled stainless steel ensure longevity while minimizing environmental impact. “We want to create pieces you’ll keep for years,” the brothers note, emphasizing their focus on repairability and timeless appeal.

Their design journey involves extensive sketching, digital modeling, and close collaboration with European craftsmen. Prototypes are tested and refined, with industrial techniques like CNC cutting ensuring scalability and precision. Each piece reflects a balance of form, function, and practicality—a testament to Des Fragments’ dedication to creating objects that are both modern and enduring.

The person looks like they are waiting to cross the street.A person stands confidently, wearing a stylish denim outfit. The denim fabric is highlighted with its classic blue color and the pocket adds a subtle detail to the overall fashion look. The person exudes a sense of effortless style and modernity. A composite material made from concrete casting, with shadows cast on its surface. A photo of a cityscape at sunset is captured, showing the tall buildings casting long shadows across the streets. The warm light of the setting sun creates a beautiful contrast against the dark shadows, highlighting the architectural details of the buildings. The play of shadow and light creates a dramatic and dynamic scene, with the contrast adding depth and dimension to the image. A sleek and modern design made with the use of silver accents and carbon fiber materials. The silver adds a touch of elegance while the carbon fibers provide a strong and durable structure. The combination of these elements creates a unique and stylish piece that is both functional and visually appealing.
