Bottone’s Sculptural Simplicity: The Story of the In & Out Chair

Bottone, a brand that seamlessly fuses precision and artistry, is redefining contemporary design with an ethos deeply rooted in German Bauhaus minimalism and the expressive freedom of Italian Postmodernism. Founded by brothers Daniele Luciano Ferrazzano and Michele Ferrazzano, Bottone doesn’t just create furniture; it crafts multisensory experiences. Each piece they design is accompanied by a unique soundtrack, composed to resonate with its materiality and form—a signature touch that transforms their work into a symphony of craftsmanship, innovation, and storytelling.

“Our philosophy centers on merging artistry with function,” the Ferrazzano brothers explain. Their approach considers not just how a piece looks but how it feels and interacts within a space, both visually and emotionally. Sustainability, meticulous craftsmanship, and cultural narratives are at the heart of their creations, resulting in furniture that’s as meaningful as it is practical.

The In & Out Chair exemplifies Bottone’s philosophy. During the studio’s launch of its Six N. Five Objects section, under the creative direction of Brazilian designer Artur De Menezes, Bottone participated in a week-long workshop that generated various concepts, including the In & Out Chair. The chair embodies versatility, blending indoor and outdoor aesthetics with a seamless flow. “We wanted to create a design that balances visual allure and usability,” they share. Through countless iterations, from steam-bent wood prototypes to CAD adjustments and foam models, Bottone honed the chair’s form and function. The final design—sleek, ergonomic, and sculptural—debuted at Milan Design Week in 2024.

Key to the chair’s success is its innovative construction. “We ensured all bending radii are identical,” they note, creating a minimalist silhouette that simplifies manufacturing while emphasizing duality—the ‘in and out’ concept. Available in powder-coated aluminum and electropolished stainless steel, the chair reflects Bottone’s commitment to durability and environmental responsibility.

“The In & Out Chair is as much a statement piece as it is a practical one,” the Ferrazzano brothers conclude. It’s a testament to Bottone’s ability to transform design into an experience, leaving a lasting impression on both spaces and the people who inhabit them.
